Why Do Quilts Cost So Much?

I am often asked by people to make them a quilt, but when I quote them a price, they change their mind. I'm sure they're saying to themselves "Who does this woman think she is?"
But what most people don't realize, is that aside from the cost of the materials needed, quiltmaking takes a massive amount of time, patience and skill, and all that costs more than a few bucks.

No quilt is average, and the time and materials it takes to complete varies.  But, lets say you want a queen sized quilt for your bed.  Depending on the pattern chosen, that will take a skilled sewer 60+ hours to complete, 14 yards of fabric, 3 yards of batting and miles and miles of thread.

Quilts are meant to be heirlooms. They should be loved, and then passed down to your children to keep a whole new generation warm. I love thinking about the many years of comfort I will be bringing to families as I spend countless hours behind my sewing machine.
